UhmeCam About

The idea behind it

About UhmeCam: why we kept it to one person at a time

UhmeCam is a one-on-one site for chatting with strangers on cam, by voice or in text. This page covers the thinking behind that design, what we left out on purpose, who uses it, and how to reach us.

Why does every chat have just two people?

Because the best conversations with strangers happen when nobody else is listening. UhmeCam started from that observation. Group rooms turn into noise. Audiences turn people into actors playing a version of themselves. Two people, one screen, no crowd, is where the honest, funny, slightly weird chats live.

It is also easier on nerves. Talking to one new person is a small social risk. Talking in front of twenty is a performance, and most of us did not come here to perform. Keeping it to two people lowers the stakes enough that shy people actually enjoy it.

So every conversation here is one to one. You meet a single person, by video or text or voice, and the two of you decide whether it goes anywhere. That constraint shapes everything else on the site, from the match screen to the way profiles work.

What we deliberately left out

A lot of chat sites keep adding things until the chatting gets lost. We went the other way. These are absent on purpose:

  • Group rooms. Every chat is between two people. There is nowhere to broadcast to a crowd.
  • A sign-up wall. You arrive as a guest and can talk within seconds. Registration is never the first screen.
  • A download. The site runs in your browser. Want an icon? Pin the site to your phone’s home screen.
  • Made-up reviews. You will not find star ratings or glowing testimonials on these pages.

The one thing we did add on top of plain random matching is a way to keep good conversations: follows, profiles and messages.

Who uses UhmeCam?

People from more than 50 countries. Roughly one in five of them is in the US; after that, the UK, Germany, Canada and France are among the bigger groups. Time zones overlap enough that somebody is nearly always awake, which is the main reason the site rarely feels empty at odd hours.

Some come for a quick laugh between other things. Some come to practise a language, typing first and later talking. Some are new in a city and simply want to talk to someone before they know anyone nearby. A few are looking to flirt a little. All of them are real people on their own devices, with the same right as you to leave a chat that is not working.

What they have in common is a little curiosity about someone they would never otherwise meet. Most of the site exists to make that first minute easy and the second chat possible, which is why follows and messages sit right next to the random match on every screen.

Who pays for all this video?

Through coins and an optional VIP membership, because live video for a lot of people costs real money every minute. UhmeCam is still free to start: new users get free matches, and more are handed out through the Reward Center while you are online. After that, matches use coins, and VIP membership is an optional extra.

The details, including how the Reward Center works and what VIP adds, are on the how UhmeCam works page.

Can UhmeCam promise every stranger is nice?

No, and no honest site can. What we can do is give you control: choose how much of yourself to share with text, voice or video, close any chat in a single tap, and report or block from every profile. Reports go to the UhmeCam team, and accounts that ignore the rules lose access.

Where a feature is missing, the pages say so. Random matches have no gender filter, no group room and no way to broadcast yourself, and the guides tell you that up front.

And if we get something wrong, we would rather hear about it than have you quietly leave. The support address below reaches the people who can change things.

The safety guide is written as practical advice rather than legal text. If you only read one page besides this one, make it that.

Getting in touch

UhmeCam is run by a small team behind uhmecam.com. The fastest way to reach a person is email at [email protected]. The contact page lists the fixes worth trying first and what to include so we can sort it out fast.

Suggestions are welcome at the same address. If something on the site feels awkward, confusing or simply slower than it should be, tell us what you were trying to do and where it went wrong. Small fixes are often the quickest ones to make, and a clear description of what happened helps us find the cause.

First visit? The UhmeCam home page is the easiest starting point: both entrances, cam and text, are at the top. Or read the cam chat guide first if you want to know what happens the moment your camera comes on.
