A girl from Uruguay checking her camera angle before a chat

The short version

Share your face and your first name if you like, and nothing that leads to your door. Walk out of any chat that makes you uneasy, without apologising. Never send money, gift cards or codes to someone you met here. Use Report and Block on their profile when someone crosses a line.

None of this is meant to make you nervous. Most strangers are simply people looking for a chat, as curious and slightly awkward as you are. The habits below just mean the rare bad match costs you a tap instead of a headache.

The rest of this page fills in the detail behind those four habits, with the warning signs worth knowing, what to do about them, and the two buttons you will actually use when something goes wrong.

Which details should stay private?

Anything that leads to your door, your accounts or your money. Some details are harmless on their own and risky in combination: a first name plus a town plus a school is often enough for a stranger to find someone online. Keep these out of every chat:

  • Your full name, home address, workplace or school.
  • Phone number, email and social media handles, at least until you have known someone for a long while.
  • Photos of documents, cards, your house from outside, or anything with a visible address.
  • Passwords, verification codes and payment details. No genuine user ever needs them.

On camera, check the frame behind you before pressing Start. A window view or a uniform on a chair can say more than you mean to.

Which red flags should make you leave?

Leave when someone pushes you onto another app within minutes, asks for money or codes, pressures you to undress or do something on camera, or will not drop a topic after you said no. No explanation is needed. Tap Next or close the chat.

Other warning signs are quieter: a story that changes, a sudden emergency that needs your help, flattery that arrives far too fast, or a camera that is always “broken” while they ask you to keep yours on. None of these prove bad intent on their own. Rushing you is the common thread, and leaving early costs you nothing but a tap. You can always come back to the match screen a minute later.

How do Report and Block work?

Both live on every profile. Block is for someone you do not want to hear from again. Report sends their account to us along with the reason you choose, and we review reports and limit or remove accounts that ignore the rules. Use both if something serious happened.

Reporting is most useful when it is specific. If the options do not cover it, email support with the approximate time and what happened. The contact page explains what to include. If anyone ever seems to be underage, report it straight away.

Is it free, and where does money come in?

UhmeCam is free to start. New users receive free matches, and the Reward Center on the match screen gives out more while you are online. After that, matches use coins, which you buy in the app at a price shown before you pay. That is the only money that ever needs to change hands.

So here is the boundary: if someone you meet asks you to pay them, buy coins for them, send a gift card, or invest in something, it is not part of UhmeCam and it is almost certainly a scam. Leave and report. Nobody on our side will ever ask for your card details in a chat.

Choosing the right mode for how you feel

You decide how exposed you are. Text shares only words, voice adds your voice, and video adds your face and room. Starting with text is a perfectly good way to see what someone is like; the random text chat guide is built around that. When you want more, the cam chat page covers a quick camera check.

Moods change during a chat, too. If a video conversation starts to feel like more than you wanted to share, you can end it and start the next match in text. Nobody needs to know why, and the new person knows nothing about the chat you just left behind.

If keeping your identity apart from the conversation matters to you, the anonymous chat page lists the small habits that make the biggest difference. And for how the whole site fits together, see the UhmeCam home page.

Quick answers

Safety questions

Is it safe to chat with strangers on UhmeCam?

It is as safe as the habits you bring. Keep identifying details private, never send money, walk away from chats that make you uneasy, and use Report or Block on the person’s profile when needed.

Can someone find me from a chat?

Only through what you share. The other person does not see your address or contact details. Avoid naming your street, school or workplace and they have very little to go on.

Is UhmeCam completely free?

No, it is free to start. You get free matches as a new user and more from the Reward Center while you are online. Further matches use coins, priced in the app before you pay.

Someone threatened me. What now?

Leave the chat, block and report them from their profile, and do not reply. If you believe you are in danger, contact local police. You can also email support with the details.

What happens after I report someone?

We review the report and may warn, limit or remove the account. We do not always tell the reporter the outcome.
